The first floor caretaker apartment has been converted to office space, the main entry sequence rearranged and emergency exiting improved. Interior finishes have been replaced and updated. Mail boxes have been replaced to meet current accessibility codes.

Lyndale Manor received funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for mechanical and electrical upgrades. The top priority for the modernization was replacing energy inefficient equipment and lighting. Along with this infrastructure work, renovation of the first floor common spaces and exterior courtyard improved the quality of life of the residents.
Materials chosen for longer life cycle. Sustainable elements included interior and exterior LED lighting, low maintenance ceramic floor tile, solid surface counters, locally constructed wood cabinetry, boiler replacement, and low maintenance landscape materials.
Resident experience. Quality of life improvements included a new secure exterior gathering space, relocation of noisy food service equipment from dining spaces, expanded coverage of emergency power and improved ventilation throughout the buildings.

John McDonough Homes contains 580 units of subsidized family housing built after World War II. A master plan was prepared to gather issues and objectives from the Public Housing Agency, residents and regulatory agencies. Through the master planning process, the priorities for modernization were established. The modernization work will be constructed in six phases. Construction includes interior and exterior building renovation, creation of handicapped accessible dwelling units, sitework, street work, sitelighting and landscaping.

Mina Adsit, was Team Member of this project as architect for McMonigal Architects.
The complex of four hi-rise public housing buildings had not been substantially rehabilitated since their construction in the 1960's. Renovation included reorganization of the community rooms, laundry rooms and office spaces of all four buildings. A community building was added to house a dining program and management offices. The project received a 1997 Merit Award for Project Design from the National Association of Housing and redevelopment Officials.
